Although there are not adequate statistics to reflect the number of people of Romanian origins that live in United States, an in-depth study performed by Romanian-American Network, Inc. reveals that the total number of Romanians living in the United States in 2002 is estimated to be 1,200,000.

Target Population:
Chicagoland area: approx. 120,000
Detroit area: approx. 100,000

Romanian-American Population breakdown by state

The study takes into consideration official data published such as 1990 US Census, The Romanian Embassy study of 1999, immigration records, as well as information gathered directly from various Romanian-American associations, organizations and membership data of religious denominations.

Population is continuingly increasing as many people are settling here because of the high salaries, relatively low costs of living compared to other metrolitan areas, and a strong and organized Romanian-American community.

OUR READERS’ PROFILE

Unlike other immigrant communities, the Romanian-Americans have distinguished themselves for having been able to comprehend and learn the English language rapidly. This factor coupled with their eagerness and perseverence has also contributed to their recognition as very hard workers and very successfull people. Therefore, the buying power of the Romanian-Americans is far greater than of other communities.

Income: average household income $ 72,000 / year (two earners)
Home ownership: 72% own their own house or apartment
Education: 54% have college degree or equivalent
Religion: 98% christians of various denominations such as: adventists, baptist, christian evanghelists, eastern orthodox, greek catholics and pentecostals

Location:
Chicagoland - Romanian-Americans are concentrated in the north side of Chicago city and the following suburbs:
- Elmwood Park, Norridge, Harwood Hts
- Lincolwood, Morton Grove, Niles, Skokie
- Northbrook and Wheeling as well as other northern suburbs
Detroit metro - concentrated in and around larger cities such as: Ann Arbor, Detroit, Dearborn, Farmington Hills, Novi, Southfield, Troy, Warren
